Upper Danube
The Upper Danube Basin is one of natural attractions of Serbia.
This documentary introduces the Special Nature Reserve that is the habitat of some 280 species of birds, 50 species of mammals, 55 species of fish, 11 amphibians and over 1,000 plant species. The Upper Danube Basin is one of natural attractions of Serbia. It covers the area of 19.500 ha and has the status of a Conservation Area Category I. Together with the Nature Park "Kopacki Rit", on the opposite Croatian bank, the Upper Danube Basin is one of the largest protected natural areas in Europe. It includes most diverse eco-systems - freshwater, marshland, forest, meadow, swamp ones... Together with their hosts from PC "Vojvodina", the crew of "Eco-Caravan" visited Monoštor Rit and Apatin Rit, two marshes that make up this Special Nature Reserve which was once part of a much larger Danube floodplain. Every year the river floods this area, depositing fertile mud that is the breeding ground for all sorts of plants. Swamp forests include willow, poplar and oak ones. There is game here too including red deer, roe deer, wild boar... There are also waterfowls, wild ducks, swans...
